Baking? March 31, 2009

I love to bake.  It is very different from when I cook.  Cooking is an exercise in creativity while baking for me is an exact science.  It is very easy to foul up a baked good.  Too much liquid and it is soggy.  Not enough and you have a hard brick.  Better yet if you are talking on the phone and not paying attention to what you have added you get a really gross tasting hard brick.  Not that I would ever do a thing like that.  Occassionally I like to give my baked goods that have all of their ingredients and taste correctly to my neighboors.  Gift bags for me are the easiest way to deliver them.  In my head the pretty packaging makes it taste better too.

As one who has never claimed to be a seamstress – I can manage to sew a straight line.  One of the easiest things a person can sew is pillows.  For these pillows I used napkins from Cost Plus.  Why napkins?  Well half the work is done for you.  They are pressed and the edges are pre-sewn.  No worry about cutting straight and keeping edges straight too.  Most stores carry a collection or set making it easy to mix and match.    All that is left for me to do one this set is to add the embellishments.  Maybe a large button.

5 minutes…. March 21, 2009

http://www.5minutesformom.com/   They are having a blog hop all week long.  It is a nice sight for bringing moms together.  I work from home and some days my internet friends are the only communication I have with the outside world.  I wanted to put a badge/blinkie/button on my blog.  Well, I gave up.  If I cannot do it in five minutes then it is not going to happen.  For the life of me IDK why I cannot figure that out.  I also do not have any new projects to show.  Pretty much nothing going on here in my world that I can post photos of at them moment.  Yes, I am still creating but it is all for the summer show – And they cycle continues.

Time March 18, 2009

It has taken a while for me to figure out what I wanted to place inside this former cigar box.  It started out with the tought of being a catch-all on the night stand… Nah, did not like it.  Then I thought it could hold pictures… nope, still not right.  So I tossed it in on the shelf and came back to it almost 2 years later.

While going through pattern paperin preparation for a quick card making session when I thought hmmm, I could make it a stationary set. 

Bellow  is what I came up with and I am not sure who I am gowing to bestow it upon.

I used texture paste to give the raised effects in the fluer de lis.  Hambly rubons, Clearsnap ink, Piggy Tales paper, 45o Quick Dry by Helmar.  Stamped and embossed with Clearsnap ink and added some hard to see accents with Clearsnaps new product called SMOOCH.  I used it on the clay and on various cards.

 

Color Combinations March 11, 2009

The color combinations that are currently trendy please me.  I have always been an earth tone kind of person.  One of my favorite color combinations has been green and brown.  It started with a pair of Reebok highking boots in Jr. HS.  They were brown and green.  I called them my grasshopper shoes.  I loved them to pieces.  Literally I loved them to pieces.

The design is from Clearsnap ink and it is called Design Adhesive.  It is a sticker that you can either emboss, flock or glitter.  Probably even other things yet to be discovered.  The cute little box is from Scraponizer and makes a great favor. or a thank you gift.  For the flower I used a scallop die and cut petals in it.  I highlighted them with Pearl SMOOCH. Happy Blogiversary March 3, 2009

Who woulda thunk it?  One year ago, this blog began.  It came about after much nudging from friends and family.  What finally sealed the deal was the transfer of our family from Ohio to North Carolina.  Big changes for all involved.  So much has happened over the last year.  But things are finally getting back to normal.  If there is such a thing as normal?    Now that one year has passed I think I can commit to another.  This blog is something I look forward to writing in.  A digital journal of sorts.  Not being gifted with the pen (or in this case the keyboard) has not stopped me from sharing little bits of my creations, all of my typos and misspellings and my truly poor grammar.  So if you do not mind that I am far from perfect, and creating this as I go along please stop back as I try to post little bits of my creations on a bi-weekly basis.  Many of my projects are repurposed, upcycled or recycled.

 

This piece is a mosaic glass tile table that was originally  this:

  After sanding, a few coats of Krylon and 5 bags of glass tiles a fantastic new side table for my screened in porch.  Although, my friends daughter really wants it for her bedroom.  If I can find a suitable replacement for it I might give it to her as her 13th birthday present. 

I guess that gives me a really good excuse to go looking for some more flea market finds…….
